Thanks so much for this blog!

I was working in the yard on Sunday a gal from down the street stopped to chat and watch our bluebird nest box for a bit.
She called me that night and asked me if I knew about Arbonne products and did I use a higher end skin care line curently? I said no to the first question and yes to the second. FYI- I use both ProActiv scrub and toner and the eye serum & night serum by the Meaningful Beauty line. I am very happy with the results from both product lines.

She asked if she could bring me a sample of Arbonne yesterday for me to try because "it's amazing." I said sure, I'll try something new... what the heck, right?

She arrived and presented me with this shiny golden bag (great marketing) filled with full sized products that were beautifully packaged and seemingly high end quality. Y'all call this golden bag of goodies a PUP right? It was filled with the entire V-C line.

She also gave me the marketing package and said, "I'm not selling anything" Eek! A red flag!, "and just thought you might like to try this amazing product."

My question is this- if I like the PUP of products and tell her so am I going to have to fork out $260 minus the 35% discount for this "GIFT" that she ASKED me try and GAVE to me to try????

Being smarter than your average bear and having been approached by friends in similar programs, when I saw the marketing packet and CD's along with a lot of expensive product given as a "gift", I knew it was an MLM. I don't want to pay over $200 for a supposed GIFT- IS THIS A GIFT OR NOT??? I can't find a blog post that says one way or another! If it's not a gift, I'll take it back today, but if it is I'd like to keep using the products to see if I like them.
She said that she'd check back in two weeks to see how I liked the product.

I'm an archaeologist and don't belong to a church (am a Creek tribal member), female- oriented groups (do belong to several science and caving clubs though) nor have the kinds of hobbies and interests that would make me think for one second that I have enough of the higher end type of contacts needed to sell for me. If I like a product I can darn sure sell it, but I just don't know about getting anyone involved in an MLM.
The other big red flag is that the marketing pack & CD's appear to focus on money, money, money, cars that mean less than nothing to me, mansions that mean even less, and nothing in any of the testimonials impressed me at all except that I think most of them seem to be self absorbed, hollow human husks that value only money, appearances, & other's opinions of what they think they are instead of knowing themselves strongly enough to not care about such nonsense. The endless talk of earning a Mercedes- ohhhhhhh, please- it really turned me off!

What appears important to this company is not at all important to me. I am really wary and my gut says not no, but hell no!

I'm even more wary now that I've read both the good and bad posts and have a lot of trouble thinking anyone (but the creators of the product) is netting- not grossing- $10-25 k per month. It sounds fantastically improbable. If it sounds to good to be true... ha ha!

Anyway- what would y'all do and can someone please tell me if I'm gonna have to pay out the whazoo for the "gift" pup?

'nuff said... can someone tell me if I am going have to BUY this GIFT of a PUP???

Don't they pass those "gifts" from person to person until somone forks out the money for it? So you don't know if it's sanitary or not. Ick.

pinkcadillac

Astroturtle:

The "pup" is usually only given out for a couple days at a time. The idea is that you will like the stuff and decide to buy it. If you don't you can just say no thanks, and return it to her.
The problem is that she left it with you for 2 weeks!! I would keep it for a couple of days, and then call her and tell he can have it back, because you're not interested in buying the kit.
It's not truly a "gift", it's just a kit that she passes around to a lot of people to test. So there are sanitary issues, in my opinion.
Get away from this woman and her Arbonne, if you want to come out with your checkbook intact.
:)

Someone contact Webster's. Astroturtle has defined the term ARbot!!

Arbot:
self absorbed, hollow human husks that value only money, appearances, & other's opinions of what they think they are instead of knowing themselves strongly enough to not care about such nonsense.

ps: astroturtle, I am also in Bham.

Cat

Astroturtle, No this Pup is not a gift! When pressured about the whole gift thing, a rep actually told me that the gift is not in the product but in the "opportunity". It's the "Gift of Arbonne" that they are giving you. You will have to pay for the pup if you want to keep it, but that doesn't sound like this lady's strategy. The fact that she is allowing you to keep it for 2 weeks tells me that she plans to try to get you signed up as a business builder and she will expect $1-2K from you. If you say no, well then she hasn't lost anything because she's counting on you feeling so bad for saying no after you've used these products for 2 weeks that you'll at least buy the pup. Just tell the lady that this isn't your thing, but thanks for the offer and give back the products. Arbonne products are not exclusive and you can get similiar products elsewhere for a lot less.

JJ

This must be what that book is about. MLMer's are into this book called "The Gift". What a SCAM. I have a "gift" for you.........yeah, #%&*@!ING RIGHT!!!

Cat

LOL!!! JJ, you are so right! THat is a perfect definition of for Arbot. Thanks, Astroturtle!!

Cat

Yeah, and you should hear all the Arbots going on about the book. They always point out that Shad Helmster isn't even involved in Arbonne, but he endorses it in his book! The they ask "What does that tell you?" Well it tells me that somewhere there is a payoff for this Helmster guy, but he's certainly not going to disclose it.

JJ

Tells me that he is an equal opportunity scam artist, he endorses arbonne and every other pyramid scam out there designed to rob people by offering them a gift. He belongs in PRISON.

pinkcadillac

All of that "postitive energy", "Magnetic waves induced by your thoughts", etc, etc, isn't new! It's old crap that's been recycled, and has its basis in the occult. It just so happens that MLMers fall for it quite easily.
WHy? Maybe because MLM is so much like a cult, that this crazy mumbo-jumbo passes for wisdom in their addled brains.

Leah

The first thing I said when I decided to do Arbonne was that I really did not want to start talking the "lingo." I never did, either. It felt too weird to start talking the same as all these other people.

pinkcadillac

yeah - I couldn't adopt the lingo either - it was too weird. So maybe we are just the kind of people who are LESS likely to fall for cults, who knows.

Astroturtle,

Do yourself one huge favor and take your ProActive and RUN, run away as fast as you can from anything Arbonne. Nip it in the bud I say. Be firm. If you give her even a glimmer of hope, she will never let it die and will hound you endlessly (as subtle as that hounding may be).

The "gift", like the previous poster said, is the business "opportunity" and the hook is the pretty bag with the silky products (that make my face break out BTW). It's all very slick, getting by everyone except for the gullible and easy prey.

Barbara

O.k, everyone, simma down now.

Like it has been said, the "gift" is the gift of arbonne. Financial freedom. Fancy cars. Bla bla bla. Not really a gift because it will take alot of work to be even a little bit successful.

And, you should not be expected to buy anything, but the set is not free. If you like the product, and many, many people do, then buy it. If the set was brand new when you opened it, you will buy that one with a wholesale account. If it has been used before, and definetly ask, you would get a new one with your order.

If you feel like this "friend" is going to hound you into the business, then give it back now and tell her upfront you are not interested at all.

Not all arbonne consultants are cultish and looking for prey. I have already stated that I am no longer trying to "build a business" with arbonne, but I still adore the products, and I think they are worth the cost, especially at wholesale, to me. I will continue buying my arbonne products at wholesale even though I question alot of business antics by some consultants.

FYI, there is a trip to Switzerland for NVPs this month, so I am curious what will come out of it regarding the lab situation. This probably doesn't mean much, but my NVP was the one on the website in front of the lab last year. Her name is Jeanne Sterner. It can be debated back and forth. AIRD is a group of chemist who rent out the space in a lab in Sion. There is no official arbonne lab registered anywhere. AIRD is a group of people.

pinkcadillac

God, i hope they take some pictures of more than just themselves. i want to see this "new location" that they've been supposedly "breaking ground" on for the last 6 months.

Barbara

me too!

Cat

Thanks Barbara! I don't necessarily think that all reps are cultish and bad. I've said that before. I just can't find any reason to be involved with a company like Arbonne. An honest person would not want to get involved with Arbonne once they realized their marketing practices. That to me is one of the biggest problems with this company. Arbonne keeps their deceptive ways hush, hush and reverts to emotional brainwashing to keep anyone being recruited from catching on and asking too many questions. Good for you for not recruiting anymore. You're right, the products aren't that bad, but I don't think they are worth the price. I have great skin and I don't spend more than $10 a month to keep it that way. Skin problems can be controlled with diet in most cases. Moisturizer can sometimes be the biggest culprit if you have bad skin. Your body can take care of itself if you only provide it with the right fuel to do so. The only reason we need all this product is to replace what our bodies should already be doing.

The Law of Attraction is HUGE in my belief. Once you understand it, your life will change. :) Since I don't want to attract negativity into my life, this blog (and others) is something I will avoid.

I posted what I found About her BELIEF:

Law of Attraction is the most powerful force in the universe. It is simple in concept but practice is necessary. But once you "get it", there is no looking back! It will be part of you forever. The simplest definition of this law is "like attracts like." Other definitions include:

You get what you think about, whether wanted or unwanted.

All forms of matter and energy are attracted to that which is of a like vibration.

You are a living magnet.

You get what you put your energy and focus on, whether wanted or unwanted.

Energy attracts like energy

Everything draws to itself that which is like itself.

This way of thinking is VERY cult-like!! [JJ]

OH MY GOSH! That is the craziest thing I've ever heard of! What a load of steaming crap! Can you believe people actually fall for this stuff?? here's a quote from that site's "top secret" area:

"Money is magnetic energy. You are a magnet attracting to you all things, via the signal you are emitting through your thoughts and feelings. Discover how to become a powerful magnet for the creation of personal wealth."

Cassandra, honey! Please wake up - this magnetic energy stuff is a crazy cult-like HOAX! It's not real! It doesn't work!

pinkcadillac

How do you know I'm not where you want to be, Cassandra?
I'm willing to bet (based on your devotion to MLM) I'm worth three times what you are.

JJ

"Sorry PC, but I do not take advice from someone who isn't where I want to be. :)"

It is "where you want to be" that is your biggest problem.

I pray that you will reconsider this Law Of Attraction nonsense and seek out the real Truth, the Way and the Life. It is available to you and surpasses all knowledge, all wisdom and all understanding. Seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall open.

figures... no comment on the quotes? LOL!

PC- I was referring to your hatred and intolerance.
